Conferences, Volunteer Alert, and a New Paper

ANNOUNCEMENTS

·       May 12-15 in The Afterlife Conference, St. Louis, MO.  Large cast of speakers.  To register or inquire, contact www.AfterlifeConference.com.

·       You can now pre-register for the huge, wonderful Near-Death Conference on July 28-31 in Orlando, FL, put on by IANDS.  Contact www.iands.org.

·       I have extended the deadline for the study I am doing on child experiencers of near-death or near-death-like experiences from womb to the age of five, because of a request from Marek Frolik in Czech/Slovak.  Use the Call for Volunteers page easily downloaded from the Home Page of www.pmhatwater.com.  Use that page to help you remember, connect, expand, describe.  No limit on pages for reply.

·       This summer the Journal for Near-Death Studies will publish the following paper:  Electromagnetic and Other Environmental Effects Following Near-Death Experiences:  A Primer.  I cannot even begin to say how important this paper is.  The original version of my own research on this topic can be found in the Article Section of my website, www.pmhatwater.com.

Inspire Nation Interview, Scotland and Australian Conferences

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

***  Please, if you think something happened when you were very young that influenced or changed your life, look further.  You may have had a near-death experience or something like it between the ages of womb and five years.  Some have womb memories that make a difference in how they live after birth; sometimes the condition of mother’s pregnancy affects the child.  For further information, access the Home Page on my website, at www.pmhatwater.com.  Right there, on the Home Page, is information about this special project that you can download and use.  The form is not a quiz, nothing is numbered.  Be inspired by it to remember, think again, connect, describe, expand.  Take another look at your youngest years and see if anything might have influenced you at home, in school, dating, and growing into adulthood.  If you grew up feeling as if an alien, like you didn’t fit, use the form to help you put together a brief story of your life.  Please send me your story, a drawing too if you will, plus permission to use anything you send in my research, in any articles, projects, or a book that might ensue.   I need more volunteers, more people who would be willing to tell me their stories - write them down - mail or e-mail them to me.  All info is on the form.  I look forward to hearing from you.

***  The October Newsletter will be out soon.  Remember to subscribe.  It’s free.  You subscribe on my website at www.pmhatwater.com.  There is an archive of previous issues.  The newsletter I produce is for the curious.  You never know what it will contain - the lead story in the October issue is the Findhorn Gardens and the magic of gardening with angels and fairies.

***  If you live near Melbourne, Australia. be alert.  I will be one of the speakers at Mick Turner’s Afterlife conference the last week of January, 2016.  See you there.

Top of the Podcast Charts and a Coptic Conference

ANNOUNCEMENTS

*** Be sure to get the May issue of my free monthly newsletter. Subscribe on my website at www.pmhatwater.com. There are now so many wonderful new books available, I can't possibly list them here. Look for a special announcement to be sent out by May 24.

*** On April 25, 2014, the Frontier Beyond Fear show I was on with host Susan Larison Danz, skyrocketed to number one place nationwide for podcasts on spirituality and held that place for several days. We discussed children's near-death experiences and about the new movie "Heaven is for Real" - the story of Colton Burpo and what happened to him when he was four, nearly died, and came back to life. What happened to the child is typical of childhood cases. The rest of his story is not typical - his dad, a Methodist Minister, after tussling around with truth, finally and fully accepted his son's experience and that he really visited heaven. That doesn't happen to most children. They are usually hushed, made fun of, told to shut up, slapped, or ignored. Most grow up feeling "alien, that they no longer fit their family. Please get on my website and read the article I wrote about this. Children do not handle near-death experiences as do adults. Refer to my book, The New Children and Near-Death Experiences.

*** If you're open to adventure, attend the Coptics Fellowship International Conference in Johnson City, Tennessee, May 16-18, 2014. I'm one of the keynoters - my talk, Children of the Fifth World. Free will offering. Contact Peggy Fitzgerald for more information - call (423) 477-3339. She's there from 9 am to 6 pm each day. Websites: www.coptic-sun-org and www.thecopticcenter.org

***  Description about the 3-hour workshop I will be giving at this Conference follows:
GETTING REAL:  A NO-NONSENSE LOOK AT NEAR-DEATH EXPERIENCES
AND THEIR AFTEREFFECTS.  I intend this workshop to be specific and filled with
opportunities for attendees to speak up.  We will cover as much material as possible:
. . . the range of experiences and how they can differ.
. . . how one scenario can contradict another, even with children.
. . . why child experiencers (as they age) deal with integration very differently
than do adult experiencers.
. . . alarm bells for physicians and nurses
. . . alarm bells for ministers and psychologists
. . . suggestions for dealing with - family members, relationships, the puzzle
of unconditional love, sleep patterns and dreams, electrical sensitivity,
using computers, guidance and continued “downloading.”
. . . what the science of fluid dynamics tells us.
. . . a closer connection to God Presence

Big Book in French and More Books

*** To everyone in France, Quebec, and any other French speaking area, The Big Book of Near-Death Experiences has been translated into French and is now available through Editions Tredaniel, headquartered in Paris. This is the first foreign language edition of the book and one I am very excited to announce. There are many active study groups and conferences held in France on the near-death experience. Now, The Big Book is available to them in their own language. Here's hoping more translations occur.
Remember, ownership of the book has now been passed to the International Association For Near-Death Studies (IANDS). All royalties go to them. Soon enough, they will be coming out with an updated version. I'll let you know when that occurs.

*** Proof of Heaven by Eben Alexander, M.D. has now spent 10 weeks on the New York Best Seller List. We are all pleased about this. I watched him with Katie Couric on television yesterday. She had the best rendition of his story than any other news outlet – probably because Katie is a good reporter as well as television host. I predicted that Eben and his story would change the world. I still feel that way, as his case cannot be explained scientifically, no matter how hard the various doctors and scientists try. We are all multi-dimensional. We have a soul. We are spiritual beings - and that greater reality is our true reality.

*** The book, Making Sense of Near-Death Experiences: A Handbook for Clinicians, has just been given the BMA Medical Book Award and reviewed in "BJPsych – The British Journal of Psychiatry." This is a huge and important recognition. The Psych community worldwide is woefully uninformed or misinformed about near- death and near-death-like experiences. It is absolutely necessary that this lack of information be corrected. You will notice on the Home Page of my website at www.pmhatwater.com, that I recommend this book. Please buy copies for physicians, professional therapists and counselors, and for hospitals and clinics.

*** Hot off the press!!!!!!!!! The revision of my book Future Memory is now available through Hampton Roads. And, it has a super great cover. Remember, this is the big adventure book through consciousness. Be certain to subscribe to my free monthly newsletter (through www.pmhatwater.com). Announcement soon.

Science, Caregivers, BBC NDEs, & Children of the Fifth World

***  Dr. Eben Alexander made Newsweek Magazine again, with an article by him entitled, “The Science of Heaven:  Can consciousness exist when the body fails?  One neurosurgeon says he has seen it firsthand - and takes on critics who vehemently disagree” (pages 24/25, 12-3-12).  Get a copy if you can, and read it.  Eben is well-suited for this task - of taking on the medical community in a masterful way.

***  Attention nurses, caregivers, physicians, medical staff:  Nancy Clark is now doing research on what you folks experience.  What happens to you when a patient dies or has a near-death experience or a deathbed vision?  Do you see, hear, feel anything, too?  Do you find yourself accompanying your patient as far as you can?  Do you find yourself involved?  Do you receive “instructions” of any kind or feel yourself doing something you would not normally do?  Have you ever?  Please contact Nancy Clark at nancyclarkauthor@gmail.com.  Her website is www.freewebs.com/nancy-clark.  Nancy was part of my original research base, having had both a near-death and a near-death-like experience.  She has written several books, and is passionate about taking this on as another research project. . .  a very needed one.

***  Here is a BBC documentary on Near-Death Experiences, and another video of interest:
http://youtu.be/u8Ub2xx0KQ0, and http://youtu.be/WssfRABtpkg.

***  Please, please, please - if you haven’t already, subscribe to my free monthly newsletters.  You can do this on my website at www.pmhatwater.com.  I carry all kinds of news, stories, items of interest - this time debuting my newest book, Children of the Fifth World.

Trees, Heaven, the Paranormal, and the "Power of Love"

There is a wealth of good books out now about the near-death experience. Here are a few:

The Man Who Planted Trees: Lost Groves, Champion Trees, and an Urgent Plan to Save the Planet, written by New York Times reporter Jim Robbins - about the case of David Milarch, his near-death experience, and the mission he was given to clone the world's strongest, largest, and healthiest trees, so 100% of their DNA could be saved. A real eye opener for the condition of trees in our world today.

To Heaven After the Storm by seven-year-old Ari Hallmark. Caught in an EF-4 tornado that struck her home in Alabama, Ari lost her family and almost her own life. During the time when she seemed dead, she saw her family in heaven and and talked to them. Even more important, Ari knew two months in advance that this was going to happen. During those two months, she was able to enjoy her family and really appreciate them. She now lives with her grandmother. At this point, you can only get this book from Heaven Bound Bookstore run by Valerie and Randy Wix. Call them at (256) 931-2053.

Raymond Moody, M.D., Ph.D. is getting a lot of rave reviews for his latest book. It is Paranormal: My Life in Pursuit of the Afterlife. Co-writer is Paul Perry. The book was published by HarperOne and is available at any bookstore or via Amazon.

There is a wonderful, feel-good film now available for anyone to see, and it's free. Just access this website: http://www.flickspire.com/m/IAAWAR/PowerOfLove .

IANDS Conference Nears, Re-Examining Life After Death, Transit of Venus

Please remember the big IANDS conference this fall. Refer to their website at www.iands.org for more information.

Huffington Post is continuing their series of articles downplaying and outright attacking "near-death experiences." Their latest was an article by Victor Stenger, a physicist, who "proved" that any such research was wrong-headed. Unfortunately the facts he presented were superficial, incomplete, or incorrect. Refer to "Life After Death: Examining the Evidence"

Hope you safely watched the planet Venus pass between Earth and Sun on June 5 th. Won't happen again until later on in the next century!

ANNOUNCEMENTS

There are several NDE research opportunities you can participate in. Take your pick -

Electromagnetic Aftereffects:

Contact Cheryl Fracasso, M.S. She is working on her Doctoral Thesis for Saybrook University. This is not the same project being done by Dr. Bruce Greyson. This is another one, equally important. Contact her at cherylfracasso@hotmail.com for details. This study runs between 10-1-11 and 9-1-12. So, you can easily jump in now.

Parenting and Survey Issues:

Ryan Rominger, Ph.D. has two assistants for this duo-study. One concerns Near-Death Experiences and Parenting. For this contact Jennifer Hill, Ph.D. at Jennifer.Hill@myitp.itp.edu or call her at (727) 772-3888. You may also contact Dr. Rominger. The other covers Surveys and their appropriate use. Contact him at rrominger@itp.edu or call him at (650) 219-5016 or (650) 493-4430, extension 7309.

Dr. Moody’s latest book is causing quite the buzz

The book is Glimpses of Eternity. In it he establishes a new mode of study, as concerns “shared-death experiences.” I have written quite a bit about this phenomenon and show you how to participate in one (under the heading of empathic experiences), in my book The Big Book of Near-Death Experiences. There is more and more coming out, now that more people are reporting being able to accompany their loved one as the individual dies. Yes, these journeys automatically stop once individuals go as far as they can (so there’s no fear of “going too far”). Still, for those who share their loved ones death, their lives are forever changed.....almost as if they had undergone a near-death experience themselves. These are powerful shared journeys, that are changing how we regard life as well as death.

No longer discussed...

Is that most near-death episodes that happen to women occur during or because of birth, miscarriage, rape, or hysterectomies. Most of the data collected today comes from research with cardiac patients - because it’s easier to do and because verifications come naturally from the machinery hooked up to the patients. This is skewing figures, research papers, and the material available to experiencers. One person very concerned about this is Eileen Tapper-McKelvey. A particular project she has undertaken concerns miscarriages and how the NDE that occurred affects the woman involved. Since all three of mine followed in fairly quick order after a miscarriage, I am acutely aware of the effects. Eileen has designed “The B.I.R.T.H Model Curriculum for Miscarriage Bereavement” as a result. It consists of a book entitled Into the Clear Blue Sky, articles, therapy protocols, classes, discussion groups, etc. She needs help increasing the scope of this project. Please contact her if you want to participate, have ideas to share, or access to funding. Eileen’s e-mail eltapper@yahoo.com . This project is well-done yet needs a little kick-start to involve more people and expand the program. Do get a hold of Eileen.

The Afterlife Awareness Conference

This conference slated for March 9 through 11 in Virginia Beach, VA will be huge. The cast of speakers is among the best I have seen for this topic, authentic talent of exceptional skill and heart. Contact Terri Daniel about registering at info@afterlifeconference.com . Website is www.AfterlifeConference.com.

One more announcement

Susan Babcock notified me that the global movement for peace that began in September has morphed into the growing movement about corporate greed. Their goal is to connect with 144,000 world peacemakers in every country by October 28th - just two weeks away. There will be sacred ceremonies all over our planet on 11-11-11 to change world consciousness. You can participate in this. Link to www.prweb.com/releases/2011/10/prweb8867419.htm . Please do what you can.

Afterlife Awareness Conference & Miscarriage Bereavement

ANNOUNCEMENTS
*** Register now for the AFTERLIFE AWARENESS CONFERENCE, to be held March 9, 2012 through March 11, in Virginia Beach, VA. The lineup of speakers is incredible. You really do not want to miss it.

Contact: Terri Daniel, President,Afterlife Education Foundation;
info@afterlifeconference.com ; (541) 549-4004;
AfterlifeConference.com .
*** This announcement is a little more involved. It concerns a project of Eileen Tapper-McKelvey that concerns Miscarriage Bereavement. She is a near-death experiencer herself, and was quite taken that my first death/near-death state came from a miscarriage. She has created “The B.I.R.T.H. Model Curriculum for Miscarriage Bereavement” that includes a simple, almost child-like book she wrote called Into the Clear Blue Sky, and a manual on how to use the book in therapy. She has applied for a grant for enough money to start training programs. The work she has already done on this project is quite astounding. She is especially interested in providing counseling for the uninsured. In my research of near-death states, a whooping 70% of women had theirs in conjunction with either a miscarriage, birth, or a hysterectomy. I would add rape to that. If this project “speaks to you,” if somehow you want to get involved, know more, or support Eileen’s efforts, please contact her directly. Her e-mail address is eltapper@yahoo.com . Her snail mail is Eileen Tapper-McKelvey, P. O. Box 604, Waterbury, VT 05676.

September IANDS, New Books, DVDs, and Interviews

*** The International Association For Near-Death Studies (IANDS) celebrates their 30th Anniversary with an incredible conference, September 2-4 in Durham, NC (come a day early, there are activities then, too). Raymond E. Moody, Jr., M.D. and Bruce Greyson, M.D. will be the keynote speakers. It will be held at the Millennium Hotel, right across the street from IANDS headquarters on Campus Walk Avenue. Register as soon as possible. Contact: http://www.iands.org; (919) 383-7940; services@iands.org. You will need to register separately for the Hotel. I will be presenting my last research paper at this conference, entitled “The NDE as a Threshold Experience.” The theme is “Lives Changed Forever.”

*** To hear a radio show with me (as the researcher) and Eben Alexander, M.D. (as the experiencer), access www.jennifertill.com, scroll down to the show on 4-23-11. Dr. Alexander was brain dead for a week after a deadly attack of bacterial meningitis. During this time of no neocortex activity, he had a long and detailed near-death experience that completely changed his life and his idea of neurosurgery. The radio show is “Real Life with Jennifer Till.”

*** Out of the blue, as a complete surprise, Brian Hardin, the film maker, called me and said, “Do you remember in late 2007 when I filmed a two-hour interview with you? Well, I just put it on YouTube.” I had completely forgotten the whole thing. The two-parter is basically “Atwater Unplugged.” Yup, it’s a little embarrassing, as I said a few things I wish I hadn’t, but, it’s all true.”

*** Nancy E. Bush has a blog now and is inviting people to climb aboard and participate in the discussion. She calls it “Dancing Past The Dark.” Nancy’s goal is to discuss and explore the deeper issues in near-death experiences, especially those that are unpleasant or frightening. Access: http://dancingpastthedark.wordpress

*** Diane Corcoran was interviewed by “News Line for Nurses.” Nurses are an important link with near-death cases. Access: http://www.news-line.com/online/20110L/1103NLnsF/ .

*** News is starting to trickle out from the huge study concentrating on near-death experiences. Called AWARE (Awareness through Resuscitation), it involves over 1,000 cases of cardiac arrest. Early report from Sam Parnia, M.D.: “Near-death experiences are real and we have the proof.” Access: http://horizonresearch.org/main_page.php?cat_id=253. Also access http://ht.ly/4NvXG.

*** On April 23, 2011, Drs. Sam Parnia, Bruce Greyson, and Melvin Morse were guests on NPR - The People’s Pharmacy radio show. Consciousness is one of the great puzzles of modern neuroscience. As well is the question, what happens when we die? To hear this show, here are two access portals: http://www.peoplespharmacy.com/siteassets/pp-713B.mp3 , and http://ht.ly/4Nw1Y .

*** Three new books: There Is More...18 Near-Death Experiences, put out by Sharon Lund and available through http://www.SacredLife.com ; (619) 692-9507. Glimpses of Eternity: Sharing A Loved One’s Passage From This Life To The Next, Raymond E. Moody, Jr., M.D., with Paul Perry (Guideposts; Harlan, IA, 2010). Heaven is for Real: A Little Boy’s Astounding Story of His Trip to Heaven and Back, Colton and Todd Burpo (Thomas Nelson Publishing; Nashville, TN 2010).

*** There is a DVD available now called The Afterlife Investigations: Has Science Proven the Afterlife? Tim Coleman is the producer, and it comes out of England. The best way to get a copy is through http://www.theafterlifeinvestigations.com and use PayPal.

Forever Family Foundation

If you've never heard about this group, you need to. Their basic premise is "Life does not end with physical death." To this end, they sponsor research into the survival of consciousness, discussion groups, mini-conferences, radio shows, and various other services and activities. Their discussion groups are like open forums where people can discuss any and all subjects relating to the afterlife. Both the bereaved and the curious are welcome to attend. Their goal is to provide a safe environment for open discussions and learning. I've been a guest a number of times on their radio show and can personally attest to the dedication and sincerity of these people.

Should you wish to pursue more information about Forever Family Foundation, please contact them at: 222 Atlantic Avenue, Oceanside, NY 11572; (631) 425-7707; www.foreverfamilyfoundation.org. Robert Ginsberg is the founder and radio show host. To know more about the radio show, you can use the contact information above, or e-mail radio@foreverfamilyfoundation.org.

They are non-profit, by the way, and membership in the organization is free to all who wish to join - no matter where you live or who you are. I highly recommend this unique source of valuable, non-sectarian information about whatever the afterlife might be and how we may be in contact with our loved ones after they have passed. – PMH

Ian P. Stevenson, M.D.

Ian P. Stevenson, M.D. passed away from pneumonia on February 8, 2007. Childless, he leaves behind his widow and numerous younger colleagues that he has inspired to continue research on the afterlife and on reincarnation. Author of many books on the subject, his most extensive is the 1997 "Reincarnation and Biology: A Contribution to the Etiology of Birthmarks and Birth Defects."

Ian traveled six continents, often logging 50,000 plus miles annually during almost five decades, as he accumulated over 2,500 case histories in Asian and Western cultures, usually of young children who recounted details of previous lives. With diligent persistence and the assistance of many local interpreters and colleagues, he meticulously verified the children's accounts with witnesses, often in locations they had never previously visited or that were unknown by the child or his or her family. Hospital records, autopsy reports, death certificates, and photographs also supported many of his findings. He and his colleagues and collaborators have published their findings in over 300 publications including 14 books.

He was a founding member of the Society for Scientific Exploration as well as its "Journal of Scientific Exploration." Although often shunned by colleagues, he observed that "It's been said that there's nothing so troublesome as a new idea and I think that's particularly true in science." He was especially distressed by fellow scientists who denigrated his work without taking the trouble to examine the evidence he presented.

It can be said that no one else in the world has yet to match Ian's record of accomplishment, nor of his thoroughness in tracing down every possible lead and explanation for what he found. He leaves behind a body of work that is so stunning in its implications, so meticulous in its evidential strength and vigor, that it truly supports and validates the existence of an afterlife and the continuance of life itself from form to form, while seriously challenging any other interpretation one might have of the work he did.

I consider it a privilege to have known Ian and to have spent several sessions with him. I admired him greatly; and, even though hard-pressed of late to continue, I am pleased to say his department at the University of Virginia is still alive and well. PMH
